摘要： we have successfully cloned KP, a novel gene that exerts a positive influence on grain size and weight and developed new super-large grain germplasms. When overexpressed in both indica and japonica rice cultivars, KP led to the production of excep-tionally large grains. Compared to the control groups, it was noted that a significant increase of 30%–40% in 1000-grain weight was observed solely when KP was overexpressed under its endogenous promoter. Our data indicate the possibly key role of dynamic and tissue-specific expression in KP under its endogenous promoter, rather than the ubiquitin promoter with the sustaining high and constitutive expression, in determining grain traits. Of course, the extremely significant increase in grain size has led to a certain degree of decline in the seed-setting rate, but it only occurred in indica, and the seed-setting rate of japonica was basically not affected.
