摘要: Alternate brackish and fresh water irrigation has been recognized as an effective solution to freshwater shortage in arid and semi-arid regions. However, traditional experiments struggle to identify the appropriate alternate irrigation strategies under various conditions. The application of models effectively addresses this issue. The objectives of this study were to assess the suitability of AquaCrop for simulating alternate irrigation with brackish and fresh water under mulched drip irrigation conditions in southern Xinjiang and to use it to optimize the irrigation pattern under different conditions. The model had good simulation results (R2 > 0.63, d > 0.86) for soil water storage, canopy cover, biomass and yield. In terms of soil salinity, the model simulated the average ECe in the cotton root zone reliably (R2 > 0.62, d > 0.66), but the simulation accuracy in ECe simulation of different soil layers needs to be further improved. Overall, AquaCrop could be a feasible tool to guide alternate brackish and fresh water irrigation in this region. The model was applied to simulate 128 alternate brackish and fresh water irrigation scenarios under different initial soil salinity and brackish water salinity conditions. Under initial soil salinity of 0.4 %, to achieve 95 % of maximum yield, the maximum proportion of brackish water with salinities of 6, 8.9 and 12 dS/m used in alternate irrigation were 2/3, 1/3, and 1/4, respectively. When the initial soil salinity exceeded 0.4 %, it was not recommended to use brackish water with salinity over 15 dS/m for alternate irrigation. When the initial soil salinity was 0.7 %, the yield under various alternate irrigation scenarios decreased by 4.11–8.45 % compared to when the salinity was 0.4 %. In this case, the maximum proportion of brackish water with salinities of 6 and 8.9 dS/m used in alternate irrigation were 1/3 and 1/4, respectively. For initial soil salinity above 0.7 %, using brackish water with salinity over 12 dS/m was not recommended. This study could provide a reference for the optimization of brackish water irrigation patterns for cotton in South Xinjiang and similar areas.
